Sylvie Bayeux is a multicultural and multifaceted artist: director, playwright, as well as dancer and choreographer. She has a Ph.D in Theater from Southern Illinois University, with choreography studies at Mills College. She trained in ballet at Springfield Ballet, Missouri and some of the outstanding teachers who taught her include Denise Jefferson, former director of Alvin Ailey Ballet Theater in New York, and Arturo Fernandez, Alonzo King Lines Ballet Ballet Master in San Francisco. An inborn teacher Sylvie first pursued her passion teaching the performing arts, directing and choreographing at various universities and other professional venues. Recently she has focused on a performing career exploring impromptu ballet performances in San Francisco (described by the Voice of Dance as “balanced grace with power, her movements capturing both the struggling and elevating nature of the human spirit”) She has danced and toured with Keen Dance Theater in New York, and is still seeking to expand her performance career in ballet. Sylvie has been a religious yoga practitioner throughout her whole artistic career developing her own personal practice based on Iyenger, Ashtanga, and Bikram schools of yoga, teaching it to dancers and figure skaters to help with strength, flexibility, and balance. Thanks to Qi-Yo and its YTT in India Sylvie will continue to practice and perfect what she considers her dearest art form, the art of teaching.
